Teen burglars steal cremated remains thinking they were drugs

ST. PETERS, Mo -- Three teenagers are behind bars after allegedly stealing a man's cremated remains, thinking they were stealing cocaine, FOX 2 reports.

According to FOX 2, 17-year-old Devin Gesell, a 16 and 15 year old are accused of breaking into a St. Peters home in November. The teens allegedly stole an Xbox 360, prescription drugs, jewelry and the ashes of the homeowner's father stashed in a wooden box, believing it was the illicit drug.

Once in their getaway car, the thieves realized their mistake and threw the remains out of the car window, police said.

Officers used an Xbox online system to track the teens down, via an IP addressed. Gesell was charged with burglar and theft. The two younger thieves were refereed to juvenile court, FOX 2 reported.
