Fire heavily damages south Everett shop building

EVERETT - A fire in south Everett on Saturday night caused heavy damage to a shop building, but no one was injured.

Firefighters were called out to the building, just south of Everett Mall Way on 1st Drive SE, around 10:20 p.m. Everett Fire Marshal Rick Robinson said that flames were coming from the building when crews arrived, and they immediately went on the offensive.

After fighting the fire from the outside for a time, firefighters were able to move inside and bring the fire under control. There were no injuries, and no one was in the building when the fire started.

Robinson said that crews stayed at the building for a number of hours to watch for hot spots. A cause of the fire is not known, and is still under investigation.
