Body of man shot to death by police in Pasco buried in Mexico

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The body of a Mexican man shot dead by police in Pasco last month has been flown to Mexico and buried in the man's home village.

The Mexican Consulate in Seattle says the body of Antonio Zambrano-Montes was flown to Mexico on Thursday and buried in La Parotita in the state of Michoacan on Friday.

Consulate spokesman Pablo Mendicuti Villafan says the body of the 35-year-old orchard worker was flown first from Washington to Guadalajara, Mexico, then transported to the village by a funeral home.

Zambrano-Montes was shot on Feb. 10 at a busy intersection in downtown Pasco after throwing rocks at passing vehicles and responding officers.

The shooting was caught on videotape and sparked protests and calls for a federal investigation. Police say Zambrano-Montes wasn't carrying a weapon, and that three officers fired 17 shots at him at close range. He was hit five or six times, police said.
