Experts try the near-impossible, predict Seahawks' top draft pick for 2015

SEATTLE -- Some would say with all the mystery that surrounds coach Pete Carroll's and general manager John Schneider's draft picks, it's impossible to predict what the Seahawks will do.

But this doesn't stop the "experts" from trying.

The Seahawks have the 31st pick in the 2015 NFL Draft on Thursday, April 30, assuming they don't trade up or down with another team. Thirty-one picks into the draft is nearly impossible to predict, given all the moving pieces ahead of the Seahawks choice.

ESPN Insider Mel Kiper released his "Mock Draft 3.0" Thursday, saying the Seahawks would choose wide receiver Breshad Perriman out of the University of Central Florida. Kiper said the Seahawks "could really use a decent size-speed combination" at the wide receiver position, and Perriman is known for his speed and length, with Kiper him one of the top receivers in the draft class. Still, even the sure-footed Kiper admits he knows little about what goes into Carroll's and Schneider's picks.

"(The Seahawks) are very difficult to predict right now," Kiper said. "They're going to be some interesting wide receivers there, especially with Richardson now injured. That could be attractive."

But not many other "experts" predict Perriman to go to the Hawks. Rob Rang of CBS anticipates Cornerback Byron Jones of Connecticut will go to the Hawks. Jones is a standout from Connecticut, and best known for setting the broad jump world record recently at the NFL Combine.

Dane Brugler of CBS predicts the Hawks will stick close to home with their pick, going for cornberback Marcus Peters out of the University of Washington. Peters is known for his standout physical talent, but has shown emotional issues, and was suspended from the  UW program by first-year coach Chris Peterson.

NFL Network insiders Lance Zierlein and Bucky Brooks, however, think the Hawks will go with a runningback, perhaps to offset the potential loss of Marshawn Lynch. Both see Todd Gurley of Georgia headed to Seattle to match with Robert Turbin.

Of course, all of these predictions are for naught, since the Seahawks have previously gone against the grain. But you know, you can't blame the experts for trying.
