Police: Oregon man drove hours to try to pick up underage girl he met online for sex

STEVENSON, Wash. (AP) — Authorities have arrested an Oregon man after they say he drove to Skamania County with plans to pick up a girl and take her back to Oregon to have sex with her.

The Skamania County Sheriff's office says 37-year-old Edward Blake Smith was booked into Skamania County on investigation of child rape and attempted child rape. He was arrested in Washington state on Wednesday night.

Detectives say he used the Internet to contact the alleged victim and drove from his home in Tualatin, Oregon, to pick her up.

Detectives used the girl's account to arrange a meeting with him, where he was taken into custody.
