Deputies: 24-year-old man involved in high-speed chase, crash was likely drunk (PHOTOS)

KITSAP COUNTY -- A 24-year-old man arrested after allegedly speeding away from police, crashing his car with a passenger inside and then fleeing on foot will likely be charged with a DUI, the Washington State Patrol said.

According to WSP and the Mason County Sheriff's Office, the man was traveling westbound around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning on State Route 302 near Allyn when a Mason County sheriff's deputy attempted to pull him over for a traffic violation. The man took off, officers said, and patrol cars followed him.

The man crashed his 2001 Subaru Legacy a short time later into a tree and the car rolled. The car came to a rest in the eastbound lane of SR302 and the driver allegedly ran on foot. He was caught and arrested a short time later.

A 24-year-old female passenger in the car at the time of the chase was injured in the crash. She was taken to Mason General Hospital with unknown injuries.

Officers believe the driver was drunk or high. He is expected to be charged with DUI, officers said.
