School bus cameras to snap photos of illegal passers in portion of Pierce County

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Video cameras on school buses will snap photos of drivers who pass school buses illegally in southeast Pierce County.

The Bethel School District is cracking down starting Monday with special cameras will be affixed to about 10 district buses.

The cameras will snap pictures of vehicles that pass buses when they should be stopped. The cameras will be rotated between routes.

The News Tribune says the Pierce County Sheriff's Department will review the photos and issue a $394 fine to violators.

The district serves about 18,000 students over 215 square miles.
