Notorious mass murderer Charles Manson still single; marriage license to expire

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — California prison officials say the marriage license of Charles Manson and a 26-year-old devotee is set to expire without a wedding taking place.

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman Jeffrey Callison said Monday that weekend visiting for inmates passed without the mass murderer getting married.

The couple's 90-day marriage license expires Thursday.

Kings County records say 80-year-old Manson and Afton Elaine Burton obtained the license in November.

Burton, who goes by the name Star, has said Manson is not guilty of several 1969 murders that put him in prison. Burton did not respond to requests for comment.

New York City photo agency editor James McGrath says he's in contact with Burton.

He says Burton intends to obtain another 90-day license and go ahead with the marriage.
