4 transients held in Spokane strangling, stabbing

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Bloody footprints at the scene of a Spokane homicide helped police arrest four suspects.

Neighbors told police the men leaving the victim's apartment after a loud argument were transients. Officers found the suspects at homeless hangouts and say shoes matched footprints.

KXLY reports the four appeared in court Thursday and were each held for investigation of murder with bail set at $1 million each.

Police say the four killed 33-year-old Damien L. Stewart at his lower South Hill apartment during a robbery. He was strangled with his own jewelry and stabbed. His body was found Sunday and the suspects were arrested Wednesday night.

Neighbors said Stewart often welcomed street people to his home.
