Richard Sherman's big announcement: Something life-changing is on the way

SEATTLE -- One of the most important days in Richard Sherman's life is coming. And we're not even talking about his second Super Bowl appearance.

Sherman announced Tuesday that he and his girlfriend, Ashley, are expecting a baby boy "any day now."

Sherman made the announcement in an editorial on Peter King's Monday Morning Quarterback.

"My girlfriend, Ashley, and I are expecting our first child, a boy, any day now," Sherman wrote.

In the editorial, Sherman grapples with the circumstances of birth and how to evoke positive change on a personal level. He says he knows now he will be a great role model for his son, helping mold him to become a great man.

"I've realized in the last year that I can evoke change by being a great role model: a man who respects women and police officers, who graduated from college and does everything in his power to be successful within the rules," Sherman wrote/

Sherman also talks about the growing up he's done in the past year, saying "little slights" don't affect him as they once did. He's more mellow in general, he said, and doesn't get quite as overjoyed.

"It takes a little bit more to move the needle -- winning a Super Bowl will do that," Sherman says.

Sherman looks to win his second big game Feb. 1. when the Seahawks take on the Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX in Glendale, Arizona.
