Police: 12-year-old boy stabbed in Portland parking lot

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police say they're looking for a man who stabbed a 12-year-old boy with a knife in the parking lot of a Fred Meyer store.

Officials say the boy has been taken to a Portland hospital with a serious slash wound on his chest, but he's expected to survive.

The boy told police that the suspect was chasing him and a friend in the parking lot of the Gateway District Fred Meyer on Sunday afternoon when the stabbing occurred.

It wasn't immediately clear why the man might have been chasing them, and police said they had not yet located the victim's friend.
