Portland woman who poured hot grease on sleeping ex-boyfriend sentenced to 2 years

PORTLAND (AP) — A 30-year-old Portland woman who admitted pouring hot bacon grease on her ex-boyfriend as he slept on her sofa has been sentenced to more than two years in prison.

The defense lawyer for Shiree Franklin says she pleaded guilty to attempted domestic violence assault because she worried she might be convicted of a more serious crime with a longer sentence.

The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/yXFXBb ) Franklin let her 54-year-old ex-boyfriend into her apartment and allowed him sleep on her sofa last July because he had been banging on her windows and door.

She poured hot grease on his head and neck about 3 a.m., causing burns that required skin grafts.

She told police she did it "because it was time for him to go."

The man suffered burns on his face, neck and shoulder.
