Seattle mayor meets with NBA, NHL commissioners

SEATTLE (AP) — Mayor Ed Murray says he met with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman on a trip to New York this week to reiterate the city's interest in bringing both leagues to Seattle.

Murray held the meetings Monday on his way to the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

According to Murray, it was his first meeting with Silver. While Silver said Seattle remains an attractive city for an NBA franchise, the league does not have any plans to expand at this time.

Murray said the city remains "keen on bringing an NHL team here," and that Bettman recognized Seattle's value as a home for a future franchise.

Seattle's hurdle for both leagues is a suitable arena. Environmental studies on a proposed arena are not expected to be ready until the middle of 2015.
