Body found alongside bloody bedding, knife identified as missing 18-year-old woman

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (AP) — Human remains found Jan. 3 by a man cleaning up property at Lake Stevens have been identified as a missing woman, 18-year-old Summer Smith.

The Daily Herald reports her death is being investigated as a homicide.

According to the Herald, the human remains were found alongside blood-stained bedding, a broken knife and woman's clothing. No official cause of death has been released.

Smith's mother last heard from her in November. She received a couple of texts from her daughter in December, the mother said, but said the tone and content seemed out of content for her daughter.

Smith was listed as homeless in a police report taken in May.
