Transient accused of raping teen in Olympia



OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Police have arrested a 40-year-old transient accused of raping a 16-year-old girl he encountered while she was waiting for a bus at the Olympia Transit Center.

Lt. Paul Lower tells The Olympian she knew the man, and they talked and walked to the Fourth Avenue bridge were they left the road and she was raped.

The girl fled and contacted police. She was treated at Providence St. Peter Hospital.

The suspect is a known transient and police picked him up Tuesday and booked him into the Thurston County Jail.
