Homeowners who live near rising rivers in Snohomish anxiously watch and wait...

SNOHOMISH, Wash. -- A flood warning for the Snohomish River has been extended through Wednesday night, with the river expected to crest at 5 a.m. Tuesday. The nearby Pilchuck River is also overflowing, creating problems for many neighbors.

Tammie Boyd took one look at the water on Sexton Road Monday night and decided she wasn’t going to try and wade her way home.

She lives next to the Pilchuck River, but she says she doesn’t worry about flooding very often.

“It’s not one of those rivers normally that you have to worry about having someone coming in and having to rescue you.”

But she said that on Monday morning, the river started moving faster and rising.

“At first, it didn’t look like it was going to come across the street to where my home is,” she says. “But it did and it did very quickly.”

Downstream, Micah Middleton is also watching the river and wondering when it’s going to get to his home.

“It’s already taken two homes and lawns at this point,” he says. “If it keeps going the way it’s going, it’ll come right through and it’ll be a couple feet deep.”

His garage has been flooded a few times, so he came home during his lunch break and started moving things off the floor.

“There’s that anxious feeling of there’s not much you can do, so you kind of keep yourself busy and do what you can do.”

The river is already above flood stage, which is 25 feet. It could rise several more feet before it crests early Tuesday.
