Santa Sherman gives back to families in need

RENTON, Wash. -- Seahawks all-pro cornerback Richard Sherman is known for taking footballs away from opposing quarterbacks. But he’s also giving back to families in need.

Sherman hosted about 25 families at the VMAC in Renton on Monday night, surprising them with early Christmas gifts and a chance for them to meet a number of Seahawks players.

It was part of Sherman’s Blanket Coverage Foundation, whose goal is to provide students in low-income communities with school supplies and clothing so they can more adequately achieve their goals.

Sherman spends much of the offseason speaking to schools across the country, helping students to realize their potential, as he did, rising from a bad neighborhood in Compton, Calif., to attend Stanford before entering the NFL.
