Deputies: 1 high school student killed, 1 arrested following deadly punch outside party

SNOHOMISH COUNTY -- An 18-year-old high school student died after he was punched in the face at a party during a fight about a car crash, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said.

Police took another 18-year-old man into custody following the alleged assault. He is being held in Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of second-degree manslaughter.

A little after midnight Sunday, the two students got into a fight following a minor vehicle crash outside a party in the 900 block of SW Lake Roesiger Road in Snohomish, sheriff's deputies said. Witnesses told deputies the suspect punched the victim in the face and the victim fell backwards, unconscious.

A friend of the victim drove him to the hospital, where he later died, deputies said.

Both the victim and suspect are from Lake Stevens and are students at Crossroads High School in Granite Falls.

Identification of the victim will be released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.

Major crimes detectives are currently investigating the case.
