WSP: Trooper crashes while trying to stop cars racing on I-5

SEATTLE -- A Washington state trooper crashed while trying to stop two cars that were racing Sunday night, according to authorities.

Officials said the trooper lost control of the car and it hit a light pole around 9:00 p.m. on northbound I-5 near Northgate.



During the investigation, a car entered the coned-off area at the scene and hit a Washington state patrol car.

Two troopers were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. A State Patrol spokesman said that both troopers were treated and released.

The person driving the car that hit reportedly hit the trooper was taken into custody for DUI.
