Man killed when car collides with train in Seattle



SEATTLE -- One person was killed after their car collided with a train Friday in the SODO neighborhood.

Police and firefighters responded to South Holgate Street and 3rd Avenue South around 5:45 p.m.



Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to cut into the car and removed the injured person. By 6:30 p.m., officials said the man had died.

"Witnesses stated the victim drove around a lineup of cars stopped for the railroad crossing arms and lights. Witnesses said the victim drove into the oncoming lanes and was crossing the tracks when the car was hit by the northbound train."


Officers said South Holgate Street would remain closed west of 3rd Avenue South for several hours during the investigation.
