Memorials on Marysville-Pilchuck High School fence being removed

MARYSVILLE - The flowers, tributes, condolences adorning a fence at Marysville Pilchuck High School are coming down.

Ever since Jaylen Fryberg shot five friends, and then himself, the fence has been filled with assorted memorials - all offering sympathy and hope to grieving students, friends and members of the community, the Herald of Everett reported.

The fence has served as a shrine to slain classmates Gia Soriano, Zoe Galasso and Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, all 14, and Andrew Fryberg, 15. There were also some kind words written there for the shooter,Fryberg, 15, the Herald reported. All were shot during lunch in the school cafeteria Oct. 24.

Students and staff were informed of the plan last Friday, and those who choose to participate will begin removing items around 10 a.m. Monday.

“The memorial fence was put up to support us and our families,” Marysville Pilchuck High School assistant principal Lori Stolee said. “Now we need to honor and respect those we have lost. A part of healing for our school community and for our surrounding community is we need to take down the wall.”
