Family of slain Port Orchard woman fills court for suspect's hearing: 'He's a monster'

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- Family and loved ones quietly watched as the man accused of killing 30-year-old Amber Lynn Coplin and posting photos online appeared in court Friday. Suspect David Kalac entered a plea of not guilty.

Kalac is facing a charge of first-degree murder.

Coplin’s loved ones requested privacy and did not speak to the media. Many of them wore purple ribbons to remember Amber. Her estranged husband, Paul Coplin, is the only family member to talk about the case and the suspect.

“He’s a monster and there’s no reason for this,” said Coplin.

Coplin spoke with Q13 FOX News Thursday night and said he would not be attending the court hearing. He planned to spend the time with their five boys. Coplin said he never met Kalac, who had been dating Amber.

“She was a good person and she was better than him and that`s why she is no longer with us because he knew that,” said Coplin.

Amber’s body was found inside her Port Orchard apartment last week. Her murder made national headlines after pictures of the crime scene turned up on a website. Investigators say they were posted by Kalac before he was arrested
