Oregon man building world's largest nutcracker

Canby, OR (KPTV) -- A man from Canby is attempting to set a world record by super-sizing an icon of the holiday season.

Toby Johnson is building the world's largest nutcracker. Currently, the world's biggest nutcracker is in Germany and is 33 feet 1 inch tall.

Johnson is carving something much bigger in Canby. When he is finished, his nutcracker will stand 40 feet tall. Johnson said it will be so big it will be able to crack a coconut.

"It's a challenge," said Johnson. "Anyone can carve a bear, and this is something that I thought, yeah, I'm going to have to do that. We're actually planning on every year, every other year, trying to break another record.

The nutcracker will be shown off at the Festival of Lights in Roseburg starting the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
