New time lapse shows progress on 520 bridge project (VIDEO)

SEATTLE -- New time lapse video shows the progress made by WSDOT contractors on the 520 bridge project.

WSDOT says half of the pontoons needed for the new floating bridge are now bolted together and anchored into position on the lake.

“In all, it takes 77 pontoons to support the highway,” wrote WSDOT’s Ian Sterling in an email to Q13 FOX News. “66 are complete and are on the lake either bolted in place or waiting their turn.”

There are three of the large longitudinal pontoons left to build and Sterling said they should be finished at the Aberdeen facility by spring.

The rest of the smaller pontoons used for stability should be finished in Tacoma within a few weeks.
