Elementary school damaged in police chase of stolen vehicle

KIRKLAND -- A local elementary school suffered damage during a police pursuit of a stolen car early Wednesday morning in Kirkland.

According to the Kirkland Police Department, officers tried to stop a man driving a stolen car around 12:30 a.m. on 132nd Avenue NE in Woodinville.

The suspect didn't stop, police said, and crashed through a fence and damaged flower beds at Muir Elementary School before crashing the car down an embankment. The suspect fled the vehicle, but was located a short time later by a police K9 team, police said.

He was arrested and booked into jail on possession of stolen property and felony eluding police charges.

The cost of damage to Muir Elementary School was unknown. The school was operating as scheduled Wednesday.
