College Football Playoff Selection Committee issues first rankings: Oregon is close

IRVING, Texas -- The College Football Playoff Selection Committee on Tuesday released its first rankings of teams. The top four teams in the final rankings, to be announced Dec. 7, will head into first national championship playoffs.

In the first rankings issued Tuesday, the committee has the following teams in the top four, in order: Mississippi State, Florida State, Auburn and Mississippi.

Oregon is ranked No. 5.
