UPDATE: Suspect in downtown Seattle office building thefts arrested

SEATTLE -- Police said Wednesday they arrested the suspect in downtown Seattle office building thefts after receiving a report that a man was trying to sneak into a secure building on First Hill.

Police said a witness recognized the man from pictures posted Tuesday by the Seattle Police Department and distributed by local media.

Detectives are investigating whether the suspect is tied to a number of previously unreported office break-ins.

Police said employees at several businesses contacted police over the last 24 hours after seeing the suspect’s picture, and said they believed the man in the photos may also be responsible for thefts at their offices.

The man is suspected of stealing laptops, purses, cash and credit cards from several downtown office buildings.

Police said they believe the man has committed at least five different burglaries at four office buildings since June, striking at businesses in the 700 block of 5th Avenue, 1100 block of 3rd Avenue, 1000 block of 2nd Avenue and twice in the 2100 block of 4th Avenue.

Police said the suspect typically slips inside office buildings in the early morning hours, between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., or between 4:15 p.m. and 6 p.m.
