Police: Officers shoot, kill JBLM soldier 'going crazy' with gun in family home

LACEY -- Police shot and killed a man allegedly "going crazy" in a family home while his wife and young children locked themselves inside a bathroom for safety late Monday night, police said.

According to the Lacey Police Department, officers were called to a domestic dispute at 10:24 p.m. to a home in the 1300 block of Violet Street SE. Police said a wife told dispatchers her 26-year-old husband was shooting a gun inside the family home, and that she had locked herself and three young children inside the bathroom.

When officers arrived at the scene, they allegedly found the suspect in the street waving the gun. The man allegedly fired one shot from the handgun before fleeing on foot to a closed business.

Police followed the man, who allegedly emerged from behind the business brandishing the gun. Officers shot the man with the rifle.

He was transported to St. Peters Hospital in Olympia where he later died.

Commander Jim Mack said the man -- who has not yet been identified -- was a soldier at Joint-Base Lewis McChord.

The Thurston County Officer Involved Critical Incident Team is investigating the incident.
