Have you had jewelry stolen on Vashon Island? Sheriff's office may have it

VASHON ISLAND, Wash. -- The King County Sheriff's Office is holding a special viewing of jewelry recovered from thefts during the past couple of years.

Detectives laid out the jewelry on several tables Tuesday. The estimated value was in the thousands.  The jewelry was recovered from several investigations spanning a two-year period.  Some was taken from thieves while others were recovered from pawn shops from Seattle to Tacoma.

All of the jewelry on display was taken from residents on Vashon Island. Detectives say one woman was able to recover an old silverware set that has been in the family for generations.

Some, like Wayne Holt, showed up to try to find some stolen items from a theft two years ago.

"While I walked in here with zero expectations of finding anything, there is still that little flame of me seeing something," Holt said.

Holt added that he had jewelry worth about $30,000 stolen from his home more than a year ago.  Unfortunately, he didn't find anything he recognized but appreciated the opportunity to look.

"You have a chance to perhaps seek closure," Holt said.

The sheriff's office will hold another viewing on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
