Police seek public's help in identifying other driver in street racing crash that killed JBLM soldier

TACOMA -- Police are asking for the public's help to identify the other driver in a street racing crash that resulted in the death of a soldier based at JBLM

Police said that at about 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 21, officers responded to a car crash in the 9000 block of S. Hosmer Street in Tacoma.

"Witnesses saw a black Ford Mustang and an unidentified white car traveling at high speeds on S. Hosmer Street before the driver of the Mustang lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree," a Tacoma police flier said.

The driver of the Mustang suffered critical injuries while the driver of the white car sped off.

The victim in the crash was Logan Hettinger, 21, of Prairie Home, Mo., who was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. He later died of his injuries.

He is survived by a wife and young daughter.

Police are looking for any information on the driver of the unidentified white car that was involved in the incident. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and charges filed for the person in this case.
