Powerful California earthquake now blamed for one death
Buildings in downtown Napa, California suffered damage when a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Northern California early Sunday, August 24, 2014.
(CNN) -- The powerful earthquake that shook northern California's Bay Area last month is now blamed for one death.
A 65-year-old woman died Friday due to injuries suffered during the quake, the Napa County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.
Laurie Anne Thompson was hit by a TV in her home and did not initially go to the hospital. Later, she felt dizzy, and her family observed that her cognitive functions were impaired, the sheriff's department said. Before going to the hospital, Thompson collapsed.
Her conditioned worsened in the hospital, and she died Friday morning. "The cause of death was an intracranial hemorrhage due to injury sustained from the earthquake," the sheriff's department said.
The 6.0-magnitude quake was the Bay Area's strongest in 25 years.
