Police: Street race may have caused deadly Tuesday morning crash

MARYSVILLE-- Police are investigating a deadly crash that may have been the result of two vehicles street racing.

Officers received calls of a crash around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday morning in the 14100 block of Smokey Point Boulevard in North Marysville, police said.

Upon arrival, police found an early 90s blue Honda Civic that crashed into a utility pole. Inside, they found a male driver who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office. The male driver was the lone occupant of the crashed vehicle.

Marysville police are investigating the crash and trying to determine if speed played a role. Initial clues show the crash may have been the result of two vehicles racing in the area just prior to the collision, police said. It is unknown if the crashed car and driver were involved in the race.

“We are looking to talk with anyone who may have observed any racing or who has any other information to share that will assist us in determining the cause of this collision,” Marysville Police Commander Robb Lamoureux said.

Investigators are asking for anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Detective Bartl at 360.363.8350.
