Woman falls 30 feet while climbing rock wall, suffers serious injuries

ANACORTES -- A woman believed to be 19 years old was seriously injured Friday when she fell while climbing a 30-foot rock wall in Washington Park, authorities said.

The Anacortes Fire Department said that at about 5:30 p.m., they received a 911 from a Washington Park trail that an adult woman climbed up a 30-foot rock wall and fell.

Breaking Skagit (Skagitbreaking.com) said the climber was 19 and that her father was with her.

The Fire Department said a medic was lowered to the woman and a marine unit transported the injured climber back to the marina and then Island Hospital. She sustained serious injuries, a spokesman said, and she was transported to Harborview.

Her condition was not immediately known.
