'Two men pummeling me with baseball bats, I thought I was going to die'

ARLINGTON, Wash.  --  Carol Jo Daily is tougher than she looks.

The Snohomish County Sheriff`s Office says the 58-year-old Arlington woman and a male companion were the victims of a brutal home invasion on Aug. 16.

“I am laying helpless, not resisting, and there are two men pummeling me with baseball bats.  I thought I was going to die,” Daily said Tuesday.

She added that the two suspects were wearing disguises and carrying baseball bats.  She tried to fight them off, but the suspects were just too strong.

“Trying to get in as many licks as I can, because I don`t give up, I’m a fighter.  I figure I held my own against that one scrawny little sucker.  After they broke my arm, someone put their hand on my shoulder and told me, ‘Do not resist.’ And, out of the corner of my eye, I see a bat,” said Daily.

She added that the suspects beat her repeatedly with the baseball bats, pounding her right arm and leg.

“In my head I did a one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi, four Mississippi, five Mississippi.  They thought I was dead.  Why they would come into my home and leave me for dead?”

She can`t understand why her home was targeted, but Carol’s hoping someone will come forward to help put these guys away before they come back or hurt someone else.

Daily said she scratched one of the suspects in the face.  She hopes that will help identify him.

He's described him as about 5-foot-10,  175 pounds, black hair and dark eyes.

A neighbor told police a dark green 2007 Kia Sorrento was seen speeding away from Carol's home that night.
