Man accused of being one of the top 12 car thieves in Seattle escapes capture

SEATTLE -- A suspect believed to be one of the top 12 wanted car thieves in Seattle barely escaped police Sunday night and showed he was no gentleman in his frantic getaway.

Seattle police spotted accused car thief Nick Broughton with his girlfriend, Jennifer Lasky, in West Seattle late Sunday night driving a Kia Sportage. When they tried to pull him over, he ran and left his girlfriend behind, officers on the Southwest Anti-Crime Team say.

A K-9 team was called in but couldn't find Broughton. He did, however, leave Lasky to be arrested on her warrants.  Lasky is in the King County Jail.

Broughton has a $50,000 warrant for his arrest for stolen vehicles and identity theft.

Broughton also has a $5,000 misdemeanor warrant in Tukwila. He is believed to be armed with a handgun. extremely paranoid and high on meth. He is 6'3" and weighs 165 pounds.

His family members insisted to me that he was going to court and getting his life straight. Sunday night's events say differently.
