Soldier tells of catching man suspected of taking upskirt video of young girl

SEATTLE -- A local soldier says he was just trying to do the right thing when he and a friend stopped a suspected voyeur and turned him over to police.

"I was happy that it ended the way it did," said the soldier, who asked that he not be identified. "I hope that justice is served in the end."

He said he and a friend were at a crowded soap box derby in Seattle on Sunday when they noticed a man using his iPhone to videotape up a little girl’s skirt.

"We were shocked that somebody would be doing that," said the soldier. "And you could see on his face, the guy that was taking the videos, he knew he was caught, right at that moment."

The suspect took off, but the soldier and his friend chased him down, eventually tackling him and holding him down until officers arrived.

The suspect is currently being held at the King County Jail. No charges have been filed.

It’s a great example of watching what is is going on around you. Police say predators are attracted to big crowds.

The local soldier isn’t looking for a pat on the back, but he does hope more people follow his example.

"As long as we’re looking out for each other and for those who can’t help themselves, we’ll all be a lot better off."
