Did Tony Soprano get whacked at end of 'The Sopranos'? We finally know!

LOS ANGELES -- Seven years after the mysterious finale of the hit series "The Sopranos," the creator, David Chase, finally revealed if mob boss Tony Soprano was killed at the end when the screen suddenly went black.

If you recall, in the finale episode of the award-winning HBO series, Tony, Carmela, A.J. and Meadow were all gathering at a local diner after everything was seemingly patched up between the New York and New Jersey mob families.

But a couple of folks in the diner and others walking in looked like they might be potential hit men.

As tensions built, Meadow -- after trying to parallel park repeatedly -- finally entered the diner and the bell on the door rang. Tony looked up and ... everything went to black.

The end.

Chase reportedly finally gave an answer as to the status of Tony Soprano in an interview posted Wednesday on Vox. When asked if Tony Soprano is dead, Chase shook his head "no" and said, "No he isn't."

Writer Martha P. Nochimson, who interviewed Chase for Vox, wrote, "When I asked Chase about the cut to black, he said that it is about Poe's poem 'Dream Within a Dream.'

"What more can I say?" he asks, according to the article.

So we need to read the poem now?
