Two men show up at Mount Vernon hospital with gunshot injuries

MOUNT VERNON -- Two men showed up at a Mount Vernon hospital shortly after witnesses reported seeing two cars exchange gunfire.

Police said the shots fired call came in just before 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Division Street and LaVenture Road. The suspects were gone by the time officers arrived at the scene.

Witnesses told police it appeared that gunfire came from both cars directed at each other.

Later, two men, 19 and 24-years-old, showed up at the Skagit Valley Hospital Emergency Room with gunshot-related injuries.

The hospital briefly locked down until police determined there was no threat.

The 19-year-old had a bullet injury to his leg. The 24-year-old had a grazing injury -- likely from broken glass or a bullet.

Investigators do not know what led to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Mount Vernon Police Department (360) 428-3211 (24-hour dispatch center) or (360) 336-6271.
