SEATTLE -- Several dozen people gathered to remember a woman killed in a hit-and-run by a large truck near Harborview Medical Center nearly two weeks ago.  A few friends, along with strangers, left flowers and signs for 42-year-old victim Rebecca Scollard.

"We are just going to miss her a lot," said one friend.

Multiple local groups organized the memorial walk to remember Rebecca.  It ended near the corner of 9th and James, where she was killed.  On July 31, a large lime green truck hit Rebecca and dragged her nearly a block, but the driver did not stop, according to police. Investigators said the driver may not have realized someone was underneath the truck and simply kept driving.

On Tuesday, Rebecca’s family held a private memorial service.

“There is a lot of wonderful things to remember Becky by besides having a beautiful spirit. She was a loved daughter," said Sandy Scollard, Rebecca’s mother.

Scollard was unable to attend the walk Wednesday morning. She appreciated the outpouring of support from Rebecca’s friends and others who honored her daughter.

"Those people who went down and put their time in to remember Rebecca, that was really special for her family," said Scollard.

Seattle police are still investigating the accident.

The Seattle Department of Transportation is looking at new ways to improve street safety for bikers and walkers. At the memorial, SDOT announced the recommendations are expected to be complete in the next month.
