ELLENSBURG, WA -- The Snag Canyon fire located 12 miles northwest of Ellensburg has grown to 8,800 acres since Saturday. 710 firefighters are now battling the blaze that is now 15% contained.

The fire took off on Saturday forcing dozens to flee their homes. "This latest fire came down the hill in a pretty scary fashion," Toby Staab who lives near the blaze says he was forced to leave his home. "We need to get out of here, lets be smart, grab some valuables and go somewhere safer," Staab said.

At least 19 structures including 8 homes have been destroyed. Fire crews are dealing with a lot of steep and rough terrain. Nearly a dozen helicopters, including Blackhawks from the Washington National Guard are hammering away at the blaze. Several roads are closed in the area.

Fire official say the blaze was caused by a lightning strike.
