1 man dies, another in critical condition after pulled unconscious from Green Lake

SEATTLE -- Two unconscious, unresponsive swimmers in their 20s who had been under water for more than 30 minutes were pulled from Green Lake Thursday night .

One, a 26-year-old man, was transported to Harborview Medical Center while CPR continued, the Fire Department said. He later died at the hospital, officials said.

The other was also unconscious and unresponsive, Fire Department said. He is in critical condition at the hospital.

Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore said both men had been in about 17 feet of water. Another group of swimmers noticed the two men struggling in the water and called 911, Moore said.

It was unknown why the men were swimming in the dark.

No other information was immediately available.
