Cannon Beach murder suspect arrested, husband worried weeks before about daughters' 'overall well-being'

The girls' mother, Jessica Smith, was arrested in a heavily forested area 15 miles from the Cannon Beach crime scene.

ASTORIA, Ore. -- The husband of Cannon Beach murder suspect Jessica Smith filed documents showing he was concerned about his daughters' well-being just weeks before one of his daughters was found dead and another injured in a Oregon Coast hotel room, KPTV reports.

According to KPTV, Greg Smith -- the father of 2-year-old Isabella Smith and 13-year-old Alanna Smith -- told courts how he worried about their mother, 40-year-old Jessica.

Isabella was found dead and her 13-year-old sister seriously injured Friday. Jessica Smith was arrested days later on suspicion of murder.

Court documents filed in Washington show Gerg received a bizarre voice mail message from his daughter between July 2 and July 7 indicating their mother was acting strangely.

"The language Alanna used is not typical of someone her age and it sounds as though she is reading from something that Jessica scripted," Greg Smith wrote in court filings, obtained by KPTV. "She made statements such as, 'I'm so sick I can hardly talk,' (and) 'I can't sleep very well because I'm tormented by the thought of you in our lives.'"

Greg claimed Jessica was manipulating his children.

Jessica Smith is scheduled to make her first court appearance in Clatsop County on Monday afternoon. She's facing charges of aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder.

Nathan Judd, who is Jessica Smith's brother, said his family is devastated and heartbroken by the allegations against his sister.
