TRY IT: apps for local volunteering

SEATTLE — Looking to do some good this summer? Volunteer mobile apps are all the rage and I’ve got three to tell you about starting with an app that lets you give back in a whole new way.

Giftgiv syncs to your Facebook and LinkedIn accounts, automatically looks for a wide range of events then alerts you when they’re close. From there you choose the perfect gift for the person and occasion and Giftgiv takes care of the rest – sending your gift to the person of your choice. It’ll even help you get the recipients address if you don’t have it.

Then if you’d rather give of your time check out VolunteerMatch – a location based system that matches you with local volunteer opportunities based on your interest.

Finally turn volunteering into an action plan with the Team Red Cross: Volunteer app. It gives you missions to complete based on your location, plus completing them earns you achievements toward your hero progress a status you can definitely share with your volunteering teammates.

Make this the summer of good.

Another mobile volunteering app is GiveGab-Social Volunteering for iOS. You can create a free profile, find local volunteer opportunities with causes you care about, invite your friends to volunteer with you and create a volunteer resume to show all the good you’re doing in the community!
