Police still looking for drone pilot who tried to fly illicit goods over prison wall

BISHOPVILLE, S.C. -- Police are looking for the pilot behind a drone carrying pot, cellphones and cigarettes that crashed outside a South Carolina prison earlier this year.

According to the Washington Post, the small delivery drone crashed outside of the Lee Correctional Institution on April 21. But officials were unable to catch those behind the drone smuggling attempt until Wednesday, when Brenton Lee Doyle, 28, was arrested and appeared in court.

He has been charged with trying to smuggle contraband and possession of the drug flunitrazepam, widely known as roofies.

Police are still looking for another suspect in the case, and have released a series of surveillance photos, available here.

The plot was doomed from the start, however, as police said even if the drone made it over the wall, there was nowhere to land for delivery.
