Officers patrolling for impaired drivers AND boaters at Seafair

SEATTLE -- Police will be on the lookout for impaired drivers this weekend not only on the roads, but on the water too.

With hundreds of boats on Lake Washington for Seafair, police want to make sure everyone has a fun and safe weekend.

"I think we need to make it clear we aren't the fun police," Fish and Wildlife deputy chief Mike Cenci said.

Last year, 67 people were arrested for boating under the influence.

Officials say it's not just about finding drunk boaters, it's also about basic water safety.

Departments from across the area are patrolling the lake. Their message -- have fun but follow the rules.

"We want to make sure it's a safe and sane outing and that somebody's bad judgment doesn't adversely impact someone else's day in a negative way," Cenci said.
