Police: 17-year-old robber arrested after shooting victim in head

SEATTLE -- A 17-year-old was arrested after firing a handgun during a robbery Friday morning, grazing a victim's head with a bullet.

Around 1 a.m. Friday, two victims were hanging out in Cal Anderson Park when a group of five or six cornered them near the baseball field's dugout, Seattle police said. The 17-year-old pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the victims and demanded their wallets.

As the victims handed over their valuables, Seattle police said, the suspect shot the gun, grazing the victim's head.

Officers patrolling near Cal Anderson Park heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene. The 17-year-old led police on a brief foot chase before he was arrested, police said. He was still allegedly carrying the victims' wallets and cellphones when caught.

Police later found his handgun, which he allegedly ditched near the park.

The gunshot victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released. Valuables were returned to the victims.

The teen was booked into King County Youth Service Center under suspicion of robbery.
