'Some homes' lost, many saved in Rising Eagle Road fire (PHOTOS)

TWISP -- Firefighters shifted resources from the Carlton Complex fire to a new fire Friday afternoon to save as many homes as possible.

Officials said "some homes" were lost, but they did not yet know how many. An update was expected late Saturday.

The Rising Eagle Road fire threatened about 50 homes Friday afternoon in Okanogan County.

The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. west of Highway 20. It has grown to more than 500 acres.

Officials did not have a containment estimate Saturday afternoon.

Officials closed Highway 20 on Friday, but the road was back open by Saturday.

Fire commanders were concerned about thunderstorms moving through the area with wind speeds up to 40 mph.

The fire's cause has not been released.
