HELP: Police looking for crooks who took school's sentimental centerpiece

PUYALLUP-- Police are hoping the public can help locate a 600-pound century old bell stolen from an area elementary school Wednesday.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, the large black iron bell was snatched sometime overnight Wednesday from the Woodland Elementary School in the 7000 block of 112th Street SE.

The bell, secured on a concrete pad by braces, is about 2-feet around and 2-feet high. It was built in 1884.

Deputies said they weren't sure how thieves managed to pry the bell off its setting.

To make matters worse, PTO member Bekii Malcolm said the theft comes at bad time as the elementary school struggles to fund a new playground.

Anyone who has information on the stolen bell should contact 911.
