SEATTLE -- Five people were hurt when a Link light rail train collided with a van.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and S. Brandon Street.

Police said the driver of the van made an illegal left turn at the intersection and was struck by the train.

Four people were taken to Harborview Medical Center and a 6-year-old boy was taken to Seattle Children's Hospital. Officials said they all suffered minor injuries.

The southbound train was full of rush hour commuters at the time. Link light rail service was temporarily interrupted in the area.

The train was damaged and towed from the scene.

Detectives are investigating to determine whether drugs or alcohol are a factor.
