Gas Works Park vandalism suspect to police: My birthday party got out of hand

Some trash and graffiti the vandals left behind.

SEATTLE -- Detectives arrested a man for a vandalism spree at Gas Works Park that he says was the result of a birthday party that got out of hand.

Spray painted graffiti covered walls, machinery and benches in the park Monday night. Police say is one of the largest cases of vandalism ever in a city park.

Detectives spoke with a 19-year-old after receiving a tip that dozens of teens were spotted leaving the park.

Police say the suspect admitted to tagging the walls. He will be booked into King County Jail for investigation of malicious mischief.

Detectives are still working to identify other suspects in this case. If you have any information which could help identify these vandals, email SPD graffiti detective Chris Young at youngc@seattle.gov or call 206-684-5534.
